EL GALLO (The Narrator) - Male, 30 to 45, Baritone
The narrator of the piece, warm and inviting to the audience, but with a dark and mysterious side. Must command attention.

LUISA (The Girl) - Female, 16 to 21, Legit Soprano
A young romantic, she is in love with love, the idea of love, and the idea of being in love. Very na´ve.

MATT (The Boy) - Male, 16 to 21, Baritone
A young and adventurous romantic, he is deeply in love, particularly with the idea of being in love. Na´ve in many ways.

HUCKLEBEE (Matt's Father) - Male, 40 to 60, Baritenor
Boisterous and contentious. Strong vocal ability and comic timing a must.

BELLOMY (Luisa's Father) - Male, 40 to 60, Baritenor
Boisterous and contentious. Strong vocal ability and comic timing a must.

HENRY (The Older Actor) - Male, 55 to 70
An actor past his prime.

MORTIMER (The Sidekick) - Male, 30 to 50
Companion to Henry, Mortimer's specialty is dying on stage in the manner of great adventures and melodramas. Great comic timing required.

THE MUTE - Male or Female, 20 to 50
The Mute serves many functions: setting props as characters need them, assisting El Gallo, and becoming the wall separating the families. While omnipresent, the character must also be able to fade into the backround.
